Our Mattresses and Bedding
Why should I buy organic?
Organic baby bedding and mattresses offer major advantages in that the farming methods used to produce the organic materials avoid the use of toxic fertilisers, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. As a result, these organic products are not only safer for you and your baby, but also for the environment.
The Little Green Sheep organic cot mattresses are made using a sturdy core of coir (coconut fibre) and natural latex (sap from the Hevea tree), which is then wrapped with a deep layer of the finest organic welsh wool, and finished with a luxury organic cotton cover. The combination of organic wool and cotton acts as a natural fire-retardant, meaning that no fireproofing chemicals are used and each mattress passes UK fire safety regulations (BS 7177) naturally
How should I care for my mattress?
We recommend that it is good practice to turn your mattress every 3 months.
Is The Little Green Sheep organic bedding machine washable?
Yes, all of our bedding is machine washable and tumble dryer safe. To ensure that all germs are killed in each wash, we recommend that you wash a 60°C.
Advice
Safe Sleep Advice
The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSIDS) recommend the following:
For the first six months, the safest place for you baby to sleep is in a cot in your bedroom |
| |
Place your baby on their back, rather than on their front or side |
| |
Place your baby feet first at the end of the cot, to stop them from wriggling too far under the blanket |
| |
Keep your baby’s room temperature at around 18 Degrees Celsius (64 Degrees Fahrenheit) |
| |
Bedding – use a sheet or blanket rather than a duvet |
| |
Regularly check that your baby isn’t getting too hot or cold by feeling their stomach |
| |
Avoid smoking during pregnancy and ensure that your baby is a smoke-free environment at all times |

Bedtime Routines
Introducing a bedtime routine may help your baby learn when to go to sleep, with your baby starting to associate certain things with going to sleep such as cuddles, etc. It is recommended to establish a good pattern first before then being more flexible.
To read more about bedtime routines and associated topics please visit one of the relevant recommend links provided in the useful links section of the website.
