Unlike traditional sprung/foam baby mattresses, The Little Green Sheep organic cot mattresses provide and sustain a long-lasting, firm support for your baby - without the use of any chemicals. Each cot mattress is handmade in the UK to the highest quality standards, using only the best organic and natural materials.

How are they made?

Stage One: the springy coir of coconut fibre, bound together with  natural latex (sap from the Hevea tree), is first measured and cut to size  (we can make baby mattresses to any size!). This coconut fibre centre acts like thousands of tiny springs, helping to better distribute your baby’s weight across the entire cot mattress, and reduce the risk of sagging (a common problem amongst sprung mattresses).

Stage Two: three thick layers of organic welsh wool is then wrapped around each side of the coir of coconut fibre. Each layer of organic wool creates the perfect support for your baby, absorbing moisture and preventing the growth of any harmful bacteria. As a natural fire retardant, the organic wool also helps in making all our cot mattresses fireproof.

Stage Three: finally, the cot mattress is finished with a 100% organic cotton cover. Crucially, this enables the cot mattress to breathe more easily, helping to control your baby’s body temperature and avoid the risk of over-heating (as recommended by the NCT to reduce the risk of cot death).
